New Members

New members are always welcome at Falkirk Camera Club.

The club season runs from September to April with meetings taking place at Trinity Church in Falkirk. We have a varied syllabus which can be viewed here: https://www.falkirkcameraclub.co.uk/information/syllabus/.

The activities undertaken primarily fall into the following categories:

  • Guest Speakers
  • Internal competitions
  • External competitions
  • Member nights
  • Joint events with other organisations (including camera clubs)

During season 2024/25 there is eight guest speakers covering amongst other genres:

  • Macro
  • Landscape
  • Smartphone photography

A guest speaker night will usually be a visual presentation with the opportunity to ask questions on any aspect of the work being displayed. There are a great opportunity to see different genres of photography and on occasions be taken to parts of the world that are visited by relatively few people.

Internal competitions take place throughout the season, they provide members the option to submit both prints and digital images for review by judges qualified by recognised amateur photography organisations. Points are accumulated over five “monthly” competitions to determine the overall winners, there are separate awards for Mono Print, Colour Print and Projected Digital Image (PDI). There is also a separate dedicated competition for Wildlife images, along with a PDI knockout which runs for the full season. Entry into the internal competitions is optional for members but it does provide an excellent means of getting a critique on your images.

External competitions can be either against other camera clubs which we have had long associations with, or national competitions where our club is against others who are part of the recognised photography organisations. They have similar requirements with both prints and PDI’s submitted as required.

Member nights are a great opportunity to spend time discussing all aspects of photography, the content is based around members needs and includes photo editing tutorials, critique activities on the previous monthly competition results and Q&A sessions.

The Falkirk Camera Club name has been in existence since 1958, with the history of the club under different guises going back to 1889. You can read more about the various changes since our inception at:

Given how long the club has been active, it’s not surprising we have forged links with both other camera clubs and other organisations. During the season we have a joint event with Falkirk Writers Circle where members submit images that have a piece of prose written about them.

The club actively supports new members providing as much support as needed to help you in your photography journey, the club has members with a range of abilities so you should feel comfortable regardless of your skill level.

In addition to the Thursday night meetings, additional activities are arranged where members have the opportunities to meet-up at a range of locations. During the current close season we have continued to meet on our usual Thursday night taking the opportunity to walk round the local area. To date we have visited Callendar Park, Forth & Clyde canal, the Kelpies/Helix Park, Larbert Loch and Blackness. You can see a selection of the photos taken during these visits by members on both the website and our public Facebook page at:
